From Malga Magnolta to the CAI Valtellina Refuge, path number 341 is called “Il legno è vita” and different boards with descriptive panels have been positioned along the route, illustrating the importance of wood, with lots of interesting facts on its uses. Inaugurated in August 2004, in 2016 the path was adopted by Aprica primary school pupils, as part of the "School adopts a monument" project.
The simple and easy path does not present challenging elevation differences and half way along offers beautiful panoramic views of the Rhaetian Alps. From Aprica take the Magnolta ski lift. The start of the path is right in front of where you alight. Initially it follows the dirt road which passes adjacent to the sport fishing lake, up to the Malga Magnolta Agritourism.
Here, the path heads east; after the agritourism you'll find the first theme illustrated panels with interesting facts on wood and its multiple uses. Continue onto the "Gran via del Gallo" crossing (in the winter crossings link the Magnolta and Palabione areas); keep right and the path will gently ascend, along the ski slope. This part of the itinerary is highly panoramic, a wonderful opportunity to admire breath taking views of Valtellina, the Orobic and Rhaetian Alps, as well as the nature reserve of Pian di Gembro.
Pass the statue dedicated to Madonna del Carmine and you'll come to the junction leading away from the ski slope, which descends on your left. The path leads all the way down to the CAI Valtellina refuge.
